What is mabel batten?

Mabel Batten (1856-1916) was an English advocate for women's suffrage and animal rights. She was instrumental in organizing early suffrage demonstrations and was an active member of the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU). She was also a member of the Women's Freedom League and was involved in the production of their newspaper, The Vote. Besides her activism for women's rights, she was a committed animal welfare activist and co-founded the National Anti-Vivisection Society. Batten was a prolific writer, publishing books and articles on subjects ranging from vegetarianism to feminism. She passed away in 1916 at the age of 60.
